The second run against Sam was horrible; he tortured Dean pretending to still be his brother, even if Cas knew that Sam Winchester’s soul had been burnt when Lucifer occupied the vessel.
Then sent a hoard of infected; at least a hundred, against Castiel’s group after he was forced to leave Dean’s patrol behind.
His group, his people, they fought bravely, but were vastly outnumbered, they fell one by one, leaving by the end only Castiel and Claire, when Chuck and Jodie finally got to them.
Castiel arrived to Camp with a bullet on his leg and cuts on his stomach and back. He lost so much blood he thought he was going.
Dean stood by the door with the same sad eyes he had given him every time he heard Lucifer in Sam’s body telling him that his brother was gone.
In his feverish dream he could hear angel radio again.
It was almost worth it.

The next Castiel remembers is Claire crying bent over him, he had never spent time with the souls of those deceased; was this what they last saw, those they loved and cared for crying? What a sad experience. “Thank you, thank you, thank you God…” she repeated over and over as she was hugging Cas on the bed. “I promise I would never again complain…”
“What happened?” he asked rising on the pillow and Claire moved ahead and kissed him in the temple.
“Nothing… nothing, I thought I’ve lost my dad again…” she sobbed loudly. “But he’s still here…”
Castiel felt his heart breaking and hugged her. “I’ll be here… for as long as I can… ”
“Thank you.” She said and snorted. “Dean was right… you’ll be with us forever.” She perked up and moved away. “I’m going to tell Jodie.”
Dean entered the infirmary. “I saw Claire laughing… it was either you feeling better or someone finding her eye liner.”Castiel tried to laugh but it hurt a lot! “You said you will be here Cas, to fill your promise…” Castiel nodded. “I’m still planning to.” Cas closed his eyes tired. “I swear that if you die in any other way I’m gonna take it personal.” Castiel snorted amused.
Castiel got out of bed in a couple weeks, and he got even more frustrated, it was like buying a second hand car with every possible problem on it, he had leakages; he was sore, he couldn’t really move fast or heal himself, and if he did, there was something else, different and not working the next second.

The third run against Sam was maybe the worst, Castiel had to fight his way into Lucifer’s lair in order to save Dean.
Dean did something terrible, using blood from a pure soul –please don’t ask but he didn’t murdered anyone- invoked Crowley and he brought to him the weapon to stop Lucifer.
Dean tried, even knowing he could die, but in the end he lost; Cas had to run to save him even knowing Lucifer would kill him, there was no life without Dean.
“Look at you Castiel…” Lucifer mocked. “I’m your brother in his brother’s vessel and neither of you can let go…” the archangel said with a hand around Dean’s throat. “And once he’s dead. The rest will just fall crashing down.” And they fought, only angel blades; Lucifer an Archangel in its true vessel, Castiel a broken little fallen angel; a human.
