Translated story from back back in the days, Spanish/basic version HERE
it had to be translated and edited because one day will be part of the back-story of the reign at east, the place where King Marek comes from, it's gonna be the third installment for the Szarabasjka Story.
Just let me know what you think...
In a world faraway, ruled by kings, from the time the world was young and had no experience, under the same star two babies were born.
At north of the star a boy was born, he was a child of the powerful night, with a will forged with fire, at the south a girl, she was like a swift dawn with the strenght of a storm.
Both carried the weight of a crown on their heads, and the kingdoms were quite different, north only heard the clang of blacksmiths, swords and shield and armors all day, everything was iron and precious stones.
South heard laughter and calm, animals and lands full of richness, different yes, but both babies had love and care.
Time passed until the star came back over the same land, both babies were grown ups now, He was an astonishing warrior, he lost his mother and his father spoiled him, because he was everything he had left.
She was the leader of her people, just and kind, She lost her mother, and her father treasured more than any jewel because she was precious to him.
The boy fought in wars and he always won, in his entire life he never heard a NO, he had no idea how it felt to lose, and he was arrogant.
The girl ruled sometimes, even over her father, she had the wisdom of the elders and a smile you could never say no to, and she was proud.
With the star came huge calamities, lands let crops die and flocks diminished, rivers dried. North had plenty of money and treasures, but you cannot food when there's none to sell.
So the king started a war, what wasn't given by will, will be taken by force, leading the army was their best warrior, the Prince.
South worked hard, doubled efforts, released soldiers and even prisoners to work on the fields, and they grew enough for everyone, every person had the same. Every family was secure.
But that was what the Star wanted, because envy grew in the northern King's heart with each day, and mistrust grew at the South. One wanted what the other would never give out.
For years South ignored troops on their lands without permission, they even fed and healed them, Many young women had married men from those troops, some times even the king and his son graced those weddings with their presence, as the king and the princes did, but for some twisted game of faith, the boy and the girl never met, actually, they never saw each other faces.
When the draught started The King of the North visited his neighbor at the South asking fo rhelp, argued that his army kept them both safe and kept peace, and that he deserved something for that in times of dire, The King of the South agreed and gave him a part of everything, making sure there was enough left for his people.
North said it wasn't enough, accused South of lying to him, and the princess answered to his attack.
"my people work hard for every grain, we can't give you more, it'll leave those who work without food" she didn't even looked at her father "if you think is an insult, you're free to reject it and leave."
NOrth left taking everything he was given, but each day dispair started among his people and hunger started kiling them.
Spurred by the need of his people North armed his soldiers and attacked kingdoms, but none had what they needed, except of course, the one in the south...
But there wasn't all joy, the king had an illness and the princess was in chargeof them all, and she might have the will but responsability burneded her.
North asked for more food, this time the Princess had to say no, Winter was coming and it was imposibl efor her people to survive if she give away more.
Using the negative as an excuse, claiming he had been insulted, The Prince declared war, but in the south people was strong and well fed, their courage was big and their spirits were high, so they enlisted at once and the peace that lasted generations was broken, th eclam broken by the sound of hamers agains anvils, Swords replaced sows, even women were ready to die for their land and their proncess.
When her father heard of the war he cried, and cried more seeing his precious daughter in armor and with a sword on her hand.
Luckily, the South had time and the King got better so he could lead this army, battlews were horrid, the blood ran in the soil like rivers and those places the blood touched were barren and never again a leaf grew on them. while men were falling the couds came and the rain started falling like tears for the all the pain the sky was seeing, and it rained for days and days, until a lake formed from it.
The northern army swept the countrymen and walked to the palace, but in battle the prince fell, The moon had been high when the mighty warrior faced another of bigger power, even if some of the movements were weak, the warrior was swift and had a powerful spirit, he thought it'll be easy to beat the adversary, when was about the give the final strike man stood between them and recieved the sword on his chest "you're defeated..." he asked but the man with his last breath answered that if there was a sunrise, they could keep fighting.
The prince was left stunned, what a stupid faith this people had, his enemy bent near the man, without him understanding the warrior burried a sword on his chest, thesword of his last victim. The victor walked away not turning again, the prince crawled away a couple feel and still had enough strenght to take off his armor and see the huge gash bleeding.
The King said he cried while oved to take the throne of his new kingdon, soemone tried to kill him, but failed, he had the King as prisoner but the princess never came back from the battlefield, while the people had a leader it won't surrender.
It was the light of the dawn that woke the wounded prince, still laying on the floor, he saw women and men moving among corpses saving wounded kin and killing enemies, looked around and noticed he was amonelhe had been left behind, how could it be? He tried to move and a groan escaped her lip; A hand held him down, a beautiful women, fair like the sunrise light cleaned his wound before leaving him there, she saw his fierce eyes, dark hair, scars, he was a Northern and a smile gesture od disgust crossed her face for a couple seconds, for first time in his life, on those white hands saw teh blood and finally heard the cries and the pain he had caused and felt ashamed. The lady moved away giving him back to the northerns, Great joy filled them seeing the prince whi healed almost inmediatly as if the hand of the girl were magic.
To show their power on the new lands the Sounthern King was exposed, and people were tortured trying to get news from the princess, but no matter what nobody said anything. She decided to give herself up to save her father but nobody let her, her dignity and pride were the little hope the people were hanging on.
One day the invason had in front of him a group of women for feeding the king and the prince saw once again the face of the lady that healed his wound, something happened inside of him, he wanted to change into something that meant no shame in front of the girl, The maiden not even turned at him, but the prince pointed her to his father telling him he wanted to marry her, the next second she left the group and ran to the tyrant with a knife on her hands and by reflex the prince stopped her.
finally they understood who they were, prince and princess finally met, The Star was once again shone over them. The boy let her go, she couldn't hurt her, even if she threatened his father "you will marry me" he ordered, and saw once more the grimace on the face he loved while she said no.
"If I knew it was you, I would have buried my sword in your chest once more"her voice sounded like thunder and fell on his heart, She was the warrior.
"you will marry me, or I'll kill your father" Claimed the northern king, and she was given one week to decide, the girl went once more to her father on the stock at the entrance of the palace, hurt and humiliated, weakened by his illness he still had strength to refuse, he won't give his jewel to such a vile creature. "don't let him touch you, you carry our people's hope, you must not accept" and almost smiling "I'm old and I'll die anyway" A soldier got close and send her rolling on the floor with one kick.
The prince got at her side and offered her a hand but she didn't accept it.
She looked into his eyes "is this what you wanted? see me humiliated to break my people's will?" her hand clashed on his face and she left.
That whole week troops from the south attacked every chance they had, other kingdoms watched as if it were a show, how the greatest war lords from the north were defeated over and over again by simple peasant and a girl, days become weeks, and weeks months, and she had no answer, the King was in the same stock but haughty, one night the girl was caught feeding him and once again was carried to met the prince. "you could save him, return him the honor, just accept me as your husband, is it that hard to love me?" his voice was a plea of mercy, that pride, that determination made him admire her more, and he had changed, the heartless warrior changed into a wiser man who understood peace, now he thought he was worthy for her.
"How could I give up to an usurper? the tyrant of my people and my father" were her cold words, and he just let her go feeling even more miserable than before.
Northern King tired of the gossip and mocks for his partial victory and his son's weakness gave the rebels an ultimatum, by the time the moon rise the nest night, the old king would be executed if the princess refused the prince.
That night the Princess arrived surrounded by a big group of her rebels.
"you think you can make me love a tyrant like yourself?" asked in a shout to the prince
"I can make the the world turn at my will" he answered "wherever my army marches everyone bow to my name, I have power over the whole world, and all that I put at your feet..."
The girl fell silent for a moment. "For my father's life I'll come back here one week from tomorrow, at dawn I'll marry you"
The invader king sent invitations, every noble house had one, he'll show them once and for all why his kingdom had to be feared and respected, and no-one should defy him.
at the marked day, by dawn the prince was standing on the steps to the church, holding the crown of his future queen. The girl, dressed in white appeared by east with the sun, her attire looked more like a shroud than a bridal gown, her face had the marks of her tears, she stopped several feet away from the entrance of the church "I'm a princess and is my right to ask for a token before marrying"
The prince inlove asked "just say it and it'll be yours"
"you rule the wolrd, you said, those who do not give in to you, will suffer you, is it the truth?" and he said yes, the sun was getting up "see that?" and she pointed to the star "make him go back down, Because I woould only marry you when there's no new day" then she turned around-a sign of disrespect- the prince's heart broke and he fell on the floor crying. Every guest laughed.
The King blinded by his wrath for the humiliation took a golden dagger and held the girls long blonde hair and cut it off before turning to kill her father, but the people rose, they were ready to fight against soldiers, that day many died for their king.
The sun saw the bravery of the girl and fell inlove, took a wisp of sky and put it over her head giving her a new hair, this one was dark and he pinned in it a sun beam, the sunbeam was so powerful that the new hair flew around her face and when it finally fell was braided. not long after the war was over he claimed her for him and took her to the sky.
All noblemen flew after seeing the sun touching the girl, and among them the tyrant left too, went back to his kingdom with his army thinned and his son without will, The young man cried so much that his teares dried, the last two he'd ever cry fellas two precious stones of clear blue, when they fell the prince died and went back to the night, he left behind only two pieces of his red heart and his heavy sword.
That's why the desert of fire has two kingdoms, the Borkbals, means first born, the most valuable treasures are an ornamental comb made of a rare gold with gems in the shape of the sun and two tear shaped precious stones. it is said that those are the only things left by the princes when she left, her sunbeam and her suitor's last tears.
And the Bojacs wich means born after, the most valuable object for them are two stones, blood red rubies that when together they form a heart. and a sword, too heavy for any man to wield, and only the one who's designed to riegn will hold it, the one rightful and never driven by his conceit.
But like everything else in te world, history is forgotten and mistakes repeated.
I'll be greatly thankful for any opinion, idea, thought or suggestion on this story.
