OK, the good news is that I'm finishing with the editing-hope is good enough- and it'll be like three parts long, maybe four.
the bad news is that is not really casefic-ish, and I'm really struggling with the shmoop-ey/sexy Sabriel part.
But anyways.. here it comes. the second angsty messy part.

Part ONE

Dean took care of the jewel given to him like he takes care of everything given to him, his brother, his car, his guns, and Castiel, the one he sees as another brother. At least that’s what he tried to convince himself of.
It was when Castiel couldn’t find God, and Naomi controlled him that the topaz disappeared, and its place a sapphire appeared, deeper blue and with sharper edges. Dean cradled it against his chest and let out a sigh. “I don’t know why… but I’m sorry…” he whispered to it.
He’s cherished it, even –and don’t you dare to tell Sam- spoke to it as he cleaned it; but even with all his care he’s seen cracks and dents appearing to it now and then, and with care and constant cleaning some of them disappeared; Some, others remain in it making him feel as if he failed Cas.
He felt ashamed of it because the year he lived with Lisa the jewel remained tucked into the Impala’s glove box, and weird as it sounds he makes sure he’s showered after he had sex before touching it, as if it’ll feel it.
At one point, when Castiel ate all the souls and disappeared he found a bit missing and swore harder than in his entire life. He wanted to ask Castiel about it, but then… the leviathans appeared and the chance to close hell forever.
Dean carried it with him all the way in purgatory. Even forgetting about it on one of the inside pockets of his leather jacket; that much used he was to the weight. He had it with him, carrying it with him coming back, that’s why he stole the backpack.
Then Sammy went through the trials. He forgot about the sapphire while trying to save Sammy and closing hell forever. He wanted to give it back, at the church, since he had no idea of what would happen to them after that. He held it while at the church; when the angels fell he clings to it as if stopping something to happen.
He had it in his hands while he prayed for Cas when Gadreel came to him.
When Gadreel deceived him it was the stone what called him, as Castiel left the bunker it shone for a couple seconds and a giant crack appeared on it. A crack that was so deep never really disappeared, no matter what.
That’s when Dean understands the gem had something to do with Cas, and he put it in the first drawer in his dresser, in his bedroom, in the bunker, right under Mom’s pictures and dad’s journal, with the rest of his treasures.
It was when he got the mark that he went back to it, speaking to it as if it could help him. As he prayed for Cas, he often held the gem and he one time his brother found him just frowned and left. Sam might never understand that sometimes the urge to kill was too big, and the first blade could only be replaced by something else in his hand, his sapphire.
His time as a demon is not clear, he slept around and drank too much, he did stupid stuff with Crowley and without him, it was the gem what kept him sane and himself, it was the brightest blue of Castiel’s eyes what brought him back –his grace, but this sounds more poetic- and the sapphire kept him sane after that; no diet, no meditation, no Sammy guilt tripping him; nothing kept him back as much as his stone, it was the stone Cain threatened to take away to make Dean kill him.
It was the stone what he carried to take with him wherever Death wanted to send him. But don’t ask him why, because there’s not really a reason, not yet in his heart or his soul of why this stone means to him.
When The Darkness was released and Castiel was cursed and came back to the bunker hurt he was holding the gem in his hand, and in some way it seemed to help his friend.
Dean had no idea how important it was until Amara was facing his angel, his Castiel lost; he was gone. Logic, it was just one small seraph, one little angel and in order to defeat her they needed more than one archangel to fight, and they did found another one.
Sam’s stupid idea with Lucifer’s cage. Crowley and Rowena doing nothing, Castiel trying and failing. There was a bubble, a dark-redish-mark inside the gem when he saw it again, and even when Sam asked he kept saying that Castiel was fine.
They weren’t all alone in this either, there was some other players, mostly humans; those they should protect, and then there was someone else. At the smallest show of need Gabriel always came in Sam’s aid. He’s been doing it for years, even if not always directly; The Winchesters were grateful
***
All this started when Amara called Dean back, ordered him to go with her “we’re destined to be together Dean, to become ONE” she said but Dean refused.
“I’ve had a couple girls saying that before sweetheart but I’m not the monogamous type.”
The stupid frown on the Darkness’ face was almost worthy but the second she understood it was a negative she held Dean, Sam had seen her doing it before with angels and civilians, and making them disappear in a puff of blood.
“You are coming, it was never a request.” Her hand was on him but still she could see his head lolling from side to side.
Frustrated she threw him against a tree before facing Sam. “I can make you… you come with me and I’ll spare him…” Sam gasped as her hand extended to make him pay. Dean shouted a warning and a plea before Sam’s name left his lips.
That’s when the sky illuminated the entire field they were at and Gabriel warrior archangel of the lord; leader of his army appeared in front of them.
His sword was a bright flame like a lightning and darkness was forced back.” come with me if you wanna live.” He said with a wink for Sam, already holding dean against his chest with one arm and the one with the sword extended for Sam to take.
Sam turned looking at Amara as she got over her surprise and then to the angel and without a question held his hand.
Instantly they appeared outside the bunker.
“Dean?!” Sam ran to his brother as the archangel put him down, he was already holding him when noticed Gabriel moved back and sat shocked.
“Your new wards… are really powerful; I couldn’t get you in there…”
Sam looked up still fussing over Dean, Gabriel moved closer and touched him. “he’s fine, just a bit shook up…. It kinda happen when you face Mrs. Praying mantis and hold up on her.” Dean groaned and Sam let out a relieved huff.
“Oh! Great! Finally you’re here to chant…” Castiel/Lucifer appeared from a corner, also outside the bunker. “your new wards are really good, I couldn’t get in there…”
“Cas…” Dean got up.
Lucifer scrunched up his nose disgusted for what he felt in the stupid inadequate vessel. “Wrong… but I get it, you from all should know he is gone… ” and pointing a finger to himself. “Something about this vessel makes me want to hug you… and not in a friendly manner”
“I know!! Right?” Gabriel let out in a mocking tone rolling his eyes and making an “OMG” face, and both archangels laughed.
But Lucifer’s eyes roamed Gabriel with a knowing smirk. “Look at you baby brother, what’s different?”
“I spent a couple centuries on earth… it’s an eye opened.”
“Enough to love dad’s work I see…” Lucifer added with his brow-Castiel brow-raised.
Gabriel smirked but his eyes lingered a second too long in Sam. “Enough to care for this place, it has HBO, and candy… and have you tried ribs?”
“All right, all right!!” Dean moved closer. “What happened with Castiel?”
Lucifer made a movement with his hand but nothing happened. “What the home is wrong with this vessel? I can’t touch him!!!”
Gabriel smiled. “That’s the father of murder’s mark, and adds he’s the righteous Man… bro, he’s kinda special.”
The OH face Lucifer made caused Dean’s skin to crawl. “Now I get it… and that’s why Darkness wants him.”
