LJ recently moved it's servers to Russia and changed it's Terms of Service. There's an article on Gizmodo here and on another site here. I've had some people ask if we are going to move the Comm to another site. At the moment, no we don't. But I wanted to get opinions on the matter.

Hawk plus double trouble skunks

Last Saturday morning the heat started to break, which was very nice. What was also nice was that the day was filled with wild life.

Early in the morning we were visited by two skunks at the same time. Which was kind of crazy...also they both looked very much alike.

Still early in the morning, but after the skunks had departed, the crows were noisy, so I looked up in the sky and saw a lot of birds were in a frenzy, because there were some type of predator type birds in the sky. The turned out to be red tailed hawks, I got a lot of crappy photos, and one not too bad photo, so that was really cool too!

I will start with the hawk photo, the skunks are under the cut

I still have photos from the weekend to edit, but these pictures of a black cap chickadee that I took while down in the yard with it, only about 5-7 feet away, came out so cute I had to share them now :D

Pretty sure this is a Carolina Wren, over on a neighbor's deck.
Not the best of pics, but it was lucky I even managed this.

I haven't seen these around here before, funky :)

New TV:

Elementary 5x14 - 5x24

I also re-watched some Supernatural episodes :)

Note:

Feeling pretty meh about the fifth season Elementary. It was...okay? I don't know. Lukewarm is my feeling really. I didn't hate it, and I didn't really care enough either.
Oh well.

Friday's Photos

It's been too hot this week. In the 90s and humid. Not a great mix. So my mood is starting to drop, a lot, especially when combined with other issues. So, I ended up taking a lot of pictures today because it tends to cheer me up, or at least calm me down a bit.

The squirrels were not loving the afternoon heat from what I could tell and I managed to snap several pics of a few lounging in the trees. I even stepped off of the porch and took some of the pics from the ground under the trees. I also snapped several pics of sparrows and one of a robin. Oh, also a dragonfly up at the top of the dead tree.

I think this is my favorite picture of the day:

Squirrel snug in a tree.

Update on Evan

I went to visit Evan last night. He's doing REALLY well. His left eye is horribly bloodshot, but he's already able to see out of it even though he had an orbital bone fracture.

They did a surgery Monday to place some mesh to stabilize the bone, and he's wearing a patch to rest the eye, but he can already see out of it, which is pretty awesome only a few days out from an orbital fracture. It's a little blurry, but already improving. His right toe was broken, but they set it and he's not having any pain from it. His recent incision (knee surgery) opened back up in the accident, but no other damage was done to that right knee!

His left hip is fractured in multiple places, and day before yesterday they did another surgery to put in a plate and screws, which was very successful, and yesterday he was able to transfer himself from the bed to the recliner, which was what they were waiting for him to do before allowing him to move to a rehab center, so he should be moving in the next few days as soon as it's all arranged. It was a 100-mile round trip to go see him, so hopefully he'll get moved soon!

He's in pain, but he's a very stubborn kind of guy who has a very strong will, so he's already doing more than they said he could do and he's ready to hit rehab hard!

He explained the accident to us and it was very odd. One of those freak things. He was on a highway going 75-80 (speed limit is 75 even on 2-lane highways here) and a pick-up truck towing an SUV was going the opposite way. The cable let loose on the SUV and it went across the median.

Evan had the choice between hurting other people or just hurting himself, so he stomped on the brakes instead of veering into oncoming traffic or going into the other lane going his way and sideswiping the other vehicles going his way. He didn't have much time to slow down and the SUV heading for him was going pretty fast too, so his car is totaled.

One cool thing about all of this is that he has been having trouble with a pinched nerve in his neck ever since he had the knee surgery. It was causing the right ring and pinkie fingers to go numb and causing pain all throughout the arm and neck. Ryan and I were joking the other day that it would be cool if the accident fixed that, so I asked Evan about it, and would you believe the accident fixed the pinched nerve? He can feel his fingers again and there's no tightness or pain in his arm or neck!

They expect him to be in rehab for a couple weeks, and for a week or two after that they want him to take it easy, but he's claiming he's going to be back to work in 8 days. Stubborn dork :D

Birds and a Skunk

There were a bunch of sparrows and a robin or two in the dead tree the other day, all at the same time. There were a lot more than I could get a pic of. It was like they were having a meeting. It didn't last very long, but it was a bit noisy.

Yesterday I was able to take a few not too blurry pics of a skunk in the yard around sundown. Picks of that and also a robin I took today under the cut... Read more... )

Hello, all! I am searching for a specific Dean/Castiel (Destiel) Fic. This Fic is Non-AU and there is a lot of Angst/Comfort.

In this Fic: Dean and Cas are vacationing in a beach(?) house (I think) or possibly another house. The house doesn't have a TV or anything I believe and Dean repairs things around the house during the Fic (he also does so to avoid talking about his feelings).

They are taking a vacation due to the last hunt they went on going wrong. Dean was beggining to have panic/anxiety attacks and Cas and Sam think that him taking a break would help him with his anxiety.

Dean and Cas speak to Sam via Phone Call until he visits them once during this Fic.

They don't hunt for a while but once Dean and Cas return to the Bunker, Dean, Cas and Sam begin to Hunt again. Everything is okay until Cas and/or Sam is almost killed during a hunt. Dean begins struggling with his anxiety once again and they (Dean and Cas ) stop hunting for good and return to their vacation home for a while so Dean can heal.

I read this Fic on Archive Our Own (AO3.) and sadly this is all I can remember.

Thank you in advance!

Hi :)
I am looking for a fanfiction which was posted on archieveofourown.org, as far as I remember. It is about Sam who runs away from Dean and into a forest where he tries to kill himself with a knife.
Cas and Dean look for him but can't find him until it's too late.
When Cas finally finds Sam on a clearing he is already dead but he gets brought back to life by Lucifer...
That's all I can remember.
I hope anyone can help me :)

Writing and Whatnot...

I finished and posted my fic that I was writing for [community profile] fan_flashworks . It's not awesome, but it is done and I did enjoy writing it, mostly.
I did not enjoy editing it though. I hate that part. A lot.
This is probably one of the longer fics I've written if not the longest. Not that I've written tons of fic or anything.

Okay I checked...this fic at 3,478 words is 1350 words longer than my previously longest posted work. Hmmm... wacky.

Very hot and humid today. Blah. I could really do with cooler days. I find it hard to motivate myself to do much of anything when it's like this.

Oh, the latest issue of America (America Chavez solo comic from Marvel) has her teaming up with Kate Bishop (the other Hawkeye) for the issue (and next issue to it seems!) Very cool!!!

hey ho, let's go

I've had that in my head since I saw Spider-Man, which was probably one of the best superhero movies I've seen in a couple of years. Zippy and fun and charming and not GRIMDARK oh god I'm so tired of grimdark at the moment. I guess it has its place, but it's not for me right now.

*

My birthday was a couple of weeks ago. I had a really nice weekend. I went out with some friends and saw The Beguiled which I liked - not the best movie I've seen this year but it was pretty and I sometimes really dig Nicole Kidman's chilly remove, and then I went to brunch with my sisters and had a ginormous Belgian waffle. Got a lot of lovely presents also.

Had chemo on the 10th and spent the rest of the week fucking sick. So fucking done with this mentally and emotionally, but only halfway through, unless the CT scan, which is on the 25th, shows that the chemo hasn't been working. So whatever, blah blah.

I spent the entire week alone and curled up in the dark [except for Nina, who is such a wonderful nanny dog, bless her] so when Sunday came and I actually felt well enough to walk around I immediately ran to some thrift stores and blew every penny of my birthday $$, and then went and spent the gift cards that I got. Part of it was just wanting to get out of the house, and I think part of it was some sort of oppositional perversity, a kind of fuck-you to isolation and illness, and then part of it was a kind of reaction to my eating disorder, always present but especially right now unable to indulge because almost everything I eat tastes like metallic garbage. Except ice cream and like cheese and butter, and I know I can't eat a fuckton of that stuff because of course it's the highest in calories, FML. [Vegetables are especially disgusting. I used to look forward to a giant salad every day; I still eat one because nutrients, but I choke it down, ugh] I couldn't eat, so I shopped. :-/

That said, I didn't break the bank [I can't. Chemo bills are a-comin']. I went to the Goodwill 99 cent store and got a couple of pairs of pants because mine are too big right now [I'm keeping the old ones because god knows what my body is going to do in the next couple of months]. I also got a couple of cool vintage dresses for fall. I went to the antique mall on Central and got two vintage handbags, and a tiny sweet navy hat that I'll be able to wear once my hair grows back again. Then I went to another antique store where I know the folks who run it - they were having a half-off sale on their bin costume jewelry, which is usually super-cheap anyway, like a dollar for a pair of earrings, so I got like seven pairs of earrings and four necklaces. Then I went to Sephora and got the Anastasia Modern Renaissance eye palette. OMG it is so beautiful. The textures are so creamy and the pigments are so intense. For the first time evah I watched a couple of tutorials on Youtube to get some pointers on how to combine some of the colors. Then I went to Savers and got a little painted concrete skull and some candles for fall, and a new king-size bottom sheet for my bed.

I'm reading a book called Glamour that is very resonant to me - it talks a lot about how glamour [of all stripes] tempts and feeds [never fully] unfulfilled longing and my particular brand of materialism. Made me laugh, ruefully, and I showed it to my therapist. We discussed a lot of it. She actually thinks I'm over-pathologizing my shopping because I don't spend enough to make a big dent in my finances, but I still feel guilty about spending any money for pleasure on myself, for having lots of pretty things because I grew up with very little, and we were always made to feel like there was never enough money for frivolities. It's complicated; I'm still working through it.

*

I haven't made any progress on my auction story. :-/ I mean, as excuses go I guess I have a good one, but I just want to keep going with it. I hate losing momentum. AAAAAARGGH. Going to make an effort this weekend, but still, RRRRRGHGHGHGHGH.

*

I hope everyone who went to Con*Strict had a great time. I am so sad to have missed it, but I'll be there with bells on next year. :D

*

Summer classes are almost over. Fall semester starts in four weeks. Tempus fugit. o.0
